hello today i'm out here
0:11
going to do some maintenance on my pond
0:13
filter out here which is my uh sitting
0:16
right behind me which is in the
0:17
blue uh barrel right there which is my
0:20
pond uh
0:21
swirl filter that i uh did it's a d do
0:24
it yourself
0:25
project that i did i did a previous
0:27
video on it uh feel free to go
0:29
go through the list i'll probably link
0:30
leave a link down below
0:32
that way you can check that out and
0:34
check that out but today i'm gonna be
0:36
doing some maintenance on it uh which
0:37
i'm gonna be basically uh
0:38
cleaning it out getting some gunk out of
0:40
there uh so basically i have my little
0:43
uh
0:44
pipe and then i also have a little sock
0:47
that i'm gonna see
0:48
what what stuff i get out of there so
0:49
let's go ahead and clean my filter
0:51
so first things first what i do need to
0:53
do is i do need to remove the cover
0:55
uh which is this thing right here so let
0:57
me go ahead and remove that
0:59
uh nice and tight i did drill a hole on
1:01
top of this just to remove some air
1:03
when it does come up with uh some water
1:07
so i'm gonna go ahead and remove this i
1:09
can
1:11
there we go then you guys can remove
1:13
oops
1:14
just need to remove the lid right there
1:16
and that's the inside
1:19
that's the inside of my swirl filter let
1:21
me give you a
1:23
let me give you a close look in there
1:25
and what i do have in there i do have
1:27
some
1:27
of the um media in there uh
1:31
uh what's that called the um oh boy
1:34
i forgot the name of the the of the
1:36
media but it's this uh
1:40
it's this uh this this kind of media
1:43
i put a bunch in there and that kind of
1:45
collects the gunk
1:46
and whatnot
1:50
okay sorry about that plane was going
1:51
overhead but basically i
1:53
totally forget the name of the media if
1:55
you do know the name of the media
1:57
please put that down below i think it's
1:59
like k1 something or something
2:02
but it's just basically something i put
2:03
in there
2:05
looking at some other videos on how to
2:06
make a swirl filter some people have
2:08
used this which is good to actually
2:09
collect the gunk
2:11
um if you look in if you see let me zoom
2:14
in a little bit
2:14
you see all how it's like a little dirty
2:17
in there which is one thing i'm trying
2:18
to do to actually
2:19
clean that out so let me let me go and
2:21
turn off my uh
2:22
pump and let's get this cleaned out okay
2:26
so now i do got the uh
2:28
the filter turned off i unplugged the
2:30
pump and all i need to do
2:32
is i'm gonna take my little sticker
2:34
right here which is basically a pipe
2:35
which i
2:36
use to redirect the water flow to a
2:39
different area rather than right by
2:40
my pump filter uh so i'm going to go
2:42
ahead and all and all i'm going to do is
2:44
basically go in here
2:45
and stir around the media get all the
2:48
gunk out of the spots
2:50
being careful not to mess with the um
2:54
outlet outlet stuff so let me just go
2:57
ahead and go in there and
2:59
mix it up a little bit get more of the
3:01
particles into the water as opposed to
3:05
being in the media so give a little
3:08
swirl on that
3:10
mix mix mix
3:14
and then all that should be drained out
3:16
when i drain it
3:18
and that should go into the sock which
3:19
i'll show you as that uh
3:21
after that all drains uh not doing it
3:24
this way this also will give me a chance
3:26
to do a bigger
3:27
water change on this pond because
3:29
basically i'll be emptying out this uh
3:32
this tub this barrel and that would also
3:35
decrease the water in there and
3:37
then all i need to do is pump in some
3:39
fresh water from the
3:41
system from the faucet which is
3:44
running through my whole house water
3:45
filters i don't have to worry about the
3:46
chlorine in it
3:48
uh this i do have on an automatic water
3:51
change system where it changes every day
3:53
i pump enough like four gallons of fresh
3:56
water in here
3:58
and that keeps it nice and fresh um i do
4:02
need to do some other
4:03
maintenance on this pond but i'm going
4:05
to probably save that for another day
4:07
but right now i'm just focusing on the
4:09
swirl filter itself
4:11
uh definitely take a look at some videos
4:13
on the swirl filters i think it's a neat
4:15
little
4:17
filter especially for this pond
4:20
primarily because it basically is
4:22
supposed to filter out all the large
4:24
particles
4:25
down to the bottom to be drained out
4:26
later
4:31
okay so that should be enough of the
4:33
mixing i'm going to let that sit
4:35
for a little bit and then get prepared
4:36
for the draining
4:40
okay so now i'm all set to actually get
4:42
this drained out
4:43
as you can see i have my pipe which is
4:45
connected to the
4:46
filter and then i have it kind of going
4:49
that way that way it's away from the
4:50
filter and that way it doesn't pull
4:52
close to the pond
4:53
and now i need to do is just switch on
4:55
the uh
4:57
i just need to open up the valve and
4:58
then the water will drain out of the
5:01
filter so let me go ahead and do that um
5:06
i'm going to open that up to look there
5:10
we go
5:11
so it's opened up and it is now draining
5:14
um while it drains i'm going to go over
5:16
this uh
5:17
scroll filter a little bit uh basically
5:19
the uh basically the water is
5:21
kind of pumped into the filter and then
5:24
kind of swirls around a circle
5:25
upwards where the drain is and then as
5:28
at that
5:28
as that goes up the particulates in the
5:31
water
5:31
are supposed to drain down to the bottom
5:33
and settle down on the bottom
5:34
uh below where the inlet is and then
5:37
basically on the bottom there's a pipe
5:39
with holes actually to remove those
5:41
particulates
5:42
um as you can see right now the water is
5:45
draining
5:46
through that uh sock right there i'm
5:48
just doing that i don't normally do it
5:49
with the sock
5:50
i'm just doing with the sock right now
5:52
just to see
5:53
the particulates and how well it is
5:55
being removed
5:56
um i could see a bunch of particulates
5:59
on the opening of the
6:00
sock which shows that it is working but
6:02
afterwards i will show that and
6:04
see how well this is removing the
6:06
particulates out of the
6:08
filter um also while i'm waiting for
6:10
this
6:11
if you haven't yet make sure you do net
6:13
that subscribe button feed that bell
6:15
that way you catch all my latest content
6:17
so anyways we can give this some time
6:19
drain out and after it's
6:20
afterwards done draining i'm going to
6:22
close back up and see
6:24
how well the particulates are being
6:26
filtered out using this filter
6:28
so stay tuned
6:32
okay so now the filter is uh all drained
6:35
out
6:36
and now i need to do is close the drain
6:39
back
6:39
up
6:42
and then i'm ready to actually pretty
6:44
much turn the filter on and
6:46
get the filter turned back on but first
6:49
i just want to give you a quick look
6:50
of the inside let me get finagle my way
6:54
in here
6:56
as you can see you can see the two
6:57
outlets i have in there
6:59
both using pvc with unisils
7:02
and you see all the k1 media in there
7:06
which you can't really go okay you can
7:08
see the inlet as
7:09
where the water goes into if you look on
7:11
the right hand side you'll see that
7:12
white pipe right there
7:14
which is kind of angled towards the wall
7:17
that way when the water comes in it just
7:18
swirls around
7:20
uh so basically that's the inside so let
7:22
me go ahead and turn my pump back on
7:24
and that is the water level of the pond
7:26
right now
7:27
and so let me go ahead and turn the
7:29
water uh pump back on
7:32
okay so i got the water pump turned back
7:33
on and the water
7:35
should be flowing in there again and
7:38
filling up
7:40
the filter i don't know if you can see
7:43
it well
7:44
uh but the water is going in there
7:48
and the water will all go back into the
7:51
filter so
7:52
and then start doing this pond again
7:55
so let me go ahead and let this run and
7:57
we'll go from there
8:02
well that's doing that i'm gonna go
8:03
ahead and get the sock
8:05
and just to see how well the filter did
8:08
indeed uh
8:09
basically filter out the debris so let
8:12
me undo that
8:15
remove the pipe yeah i'll remove the
8:18
sock first
8:20
and then you can see how well
8:23
the debris has been all filtered out
8:26
and it does look pretty nasty in there
8:30
let me see if i can actually get a view
8:32
of it it doesn't look pretty nasty in
8:34
there
8:34
as you can see from all the water
8:36
flowing out and this of course is the
8:37
side where all the water was flowing out
8:39
so i'm assuming there's a lot more dirt
8:41
on the bottom there
8:47
this is definitely ugly looking as you
8:50
can see
8:51
as all the gunk
8:54
and some snails in there as well but you
8:57
can see all the gunk that's in there
9:00
definitely not a pretty sight
9:06
and then of course is the inside of what
9:09
used to be a nice clean
9:10
white sock now filled with gunk from the
9:14
pond
9:15
so definitely doing its job
9:19
and of course look at that gunky side
9:22
you actually see big chunks of it there
9:25
uh definitely not gonna use the sock
9:26
again so that sock is gonna
9:29
eventually go in the trash uh so i'm
9:32
gonna let this run well go wash my hands
9:45
[Music]
9:48
do
10:13
[Music]
10:21
[Music]
10:28
[Music]
10:31
okay so i got the uh pond filter all up
10:34
and running fully now
10:36
uh it's full as you can see the water
10:38
level on the pond is decreased uh
10:40
primarily by about 13 gallons because
10:43
that's the size of the barrel
10:45
uh as you can see over here it is nice
10:48
and full again
10:49
up up above where the uh outlets go
10:52
back into my pond and the next thing i
10:55
just need to do now
10:56
is do some cleaning on the pipes in here
10:58
and basically refill
11:00
it back up which i'm going to go ahead
11:01
and do that shortly uh so
11:03
i'm going to get my phone and get the
11:04
water running again that way you get
11:05
more water in here again
11:08
okay so i got the filter back up and
11:10
running i got it all closed up and
11:12
cleaned out
11:13
our water is being refilled as we speak
11:16
and this is all nice and set if you do
11:19
want to learn more about this do
11:21
yourself pawn swirl filter that i did
11:23
definitely check out my video on it and
11:26
take a look at it
11:27
uh this is something i picked up
11:28
watching some youtube videos from pond
11:30
builders
11:32
i don't have i i'll probably try to
11:34
include a few links to those as well
11:36
that way you can learn more on that as
11:38
well so anyways
11:40
as usual keep researching keep learning
11:42
and have a great day
11:43
and if you like this video make sure you
11:44
do hit that like button thank you
12:02
